This 40-year-old female patient came into the emergency department (ED) in the late evening hours. She had been getting ready to retire for the night, had taken her medication and had gone to bed. She stated that she felt like she had something caught in her throat which persisted for several hours and that is what brought her to the ED.
This esophagram shows that the medication she had taken was trapped in a small Zenker diverticula. Both the oblique and lateral views demonstrate the round object outlined by barium that can be seen near the arrows.
