Asymmetric left ventricular hypertrophy (>12-15 mm, commonly located at the base of the interventricular septum) leads to narrowing of the outflow tract. Affects flow dynamics and gives rise to systolic anterior motion of the mitral valve.

• Useful for assessing the distribution of disease and wall thickness.
• Note—fibrotic tissue within the interventricular septum leads to patchy, delayed enhancement postcontrast.
