Torsion of one of the fatty epiploic appendages arising from the serosal surface of the colon. Mostly occurring anterior to the sigmoid and caecum. Torted appendix epiploica may infarct, causing pain like diverticulitis/appendicitis. Most resolve in 2 weeks.
CT
• Small, focal, pedunculated, oval-shaped mass with a hypodense (fat, -60 HU) centre
• Peripheral enhancement
• Surrounding inflammatory fat stranding
