In total, 50% of patients with AIDS have small bowel pathology; it is a common site for opportunistic infection. Causes include CMV, Mycobacterium avium, cryptosporidiosis, giardiasis and histoplasmosis.
CT
• Non-specific small bowel thickening and fat stranding.
• Ascites.
• Large ulcers are associated with CMV
• Important differentials are lymphoma and Kaposi sarcoma. ”
