•  Mimics osteoarthritis—joint space narrowing, bone sclerosis, prominent subchondral cysts (‘geodes’).
 Tendency to affect non-weight-bearing joints (e.g. elbow, radiocarpal joint and patella-femoral compartment of the knee).
•  Bilateral and symmetrical.
•  Variable osteophyte formation and chondrocalcinosis.

• Joint destruction with subchrondral collapse, fragmentation and loose bodies (similar to a Charcot joint).
