A Madelung deformity is a non-specific dysplasia of the radius. Causes are idiopathic, post-traumatic, dysplastic (e.g. osteochondromatosis) and genetic (e.g. Turner syndrome). Other associated syndromes include nail patella syndrome, Ollier disease, epiphyseal dysplasias and dyschondrosteosis.
PLAIN FILM
• Lateral and dorsal radial curvature
• Short radius with a triangularised distal epiphysis
• Articular surface of the distal radius angled in an ulnar and volar direction
• Dorsal dislocation of the ulnar head
• ‘V’-shaped proximal carpal row, ‘carpal wedging’
