This is associated with obesity, diabetes and alcohol excess.
CT
• ‘Geographic’ distribution of low density, typically in the gallbladder fossa, adjacent to the falciform ligament or at the porta hepatis.
• No enhancement or mass effect.
MRI
• Geographic area of increased T1 signal, isointense/low T2 signal.
• Signal loss on out-of-phase images.
• Adenomas and HCCs also lose signal on out-of-phase images—however, these display mass effect/displace vessels.
