Occurs in immunosuppressed patients, mostly due to candidiasis.
US
• Most commonly fibrotic changes are seen—hypoechoic liver
• ‘Wheel within wheel’ appearance is caused early in the disease by a central necrotic hypoechoic nidus of fungal elements, surrounded by an echogenic rim.
• Hyper-reflective areas denote scarring
CT
• Scattered areas of calcification may be seen with fibrosis and scarring
• Multiple small foci of low attenuation post-contrast indicate microabscesses
• Features are often non-specific and biopsy may be required
