Direct contrast-enhanced MRI arthrography is useful for evaluating labral tears, cuff tears, loose bodies and cartilage defects. Imaging is performed after an injection of contrast medium into the joint.
• Pain is the most common complication, which begins at 4 hours and peaks by 12 hours, due to a chemical synovitis.
• Other complications: infection, vasovagal reaction and contrast reaction.
