This is the most common arch anomaly. Ordinarily, the right subclavian artery arises with the right common carotid artery from the brachiocephalic trunk.
An anomalous right subclavian arises directly from the aortic arch after the left subclavian and in 80% passes posterior to the oesophagus. It is mostly asymptomatic; occasionally, it causes dysphagia due to compression on the oesophagus.
