Medical management
- < 9 weeks use methotrexate plus misoprostol (experimental)
- > 12 weeks use prostaglandins intra- or extra-amniotically, or IM
Surgical management
- < 12-16 weeks use dilatation and curettage
- > 16 weeks use dilatation and evacuation
Complications
- perforation of uterus
- hemorrhage
- laceration of cervix
- risk of sterility
- infection - usually due to retained products, occasionally endometritis
- Asherman's syndrome (fibrosis of the uterus)
