Candidiasis occurs at a CD4 count of less than 100 cells/pL.
The oesophagus is most commonly affected.
Disseminated candidiasis is less common due to the relative preservation of neutrophil function.
BARIUM SWALLOW
• Longitudinal, linear plaques (these are thickened folds)
CT
• Haematogenous spread can lead to microabscesses within liver, spleen and kidneys.
