Tends to occur in younger patients than sigmoid volvulus (30-60 years of age).
It is the result of failed peritoneal fixation of the ascending colon.
Presents with features of large bowel obstruction.
Plain film
• Marked distension of the caecum.
• Preservation of haustra.
• Long axis of the distended loops arises from the right lower quadrant.
• Gas-filled appendix.
