Painless, benign extra-articular proliferation of synovial tissue, considered to be an extra-articular PVNS. More common in females aged 40-50 years and commonly affects the hands and feet (most commonly a soft tissue mass here after a ganglion).
US
• Solid hypoechoic mass with vascularity typically adjacent to the flexor tendons of the hands.
MRI

•  Mass is low signal on T1 and T2 due to haemosiderin (relatively specific).
•  Homogeneous enhancement of the mass.

PLAIN FILM

•  Bone erosion is associated with the mass in up to 15%.
•  Mass is usually not calcified.
