Diffuse colitis arising due to infection with Clostridium difficile. It tends to cause gross mural/haustral thickening, then ileus.
CT
• Gross mural thickening (>12 mm).
• Mucosal hyperenhancement and severe submucosal low attenuation oedema produces the ‘accordion sign’ in severe inflammation.
• Ascites.
• Large bowel dilatation.
