Rare, systemic disease due to infection with Tropheryma whipplei; it is associated with polyarthritis.
CT
• Low-attenuation retroperitoneal/mesenteric lymph node enlargement
• Small bowel thickening
• Non-dilated small bowel
BARIUM FOLLOW-THROUGH
• Characteristically causes 1-mm sand-like nodules (this is lymphoid hyperplasia) in a non-dilated small bowel.• Moderate fold thickening of the jejunum and duodenum.
