Deformity arising from an insult occurring to the medial aspect of the proximal tibial epiphysis during development, also known as tibia vara.
deformity consists of varus angulation and internal rotation at the proximal tibial metaphysis.
however, occurs at the metaphysis, not the knee.
Two types are described.
INFANTILE

• First few years of life
• Mostly bilateral (80%) and painless
• Obese early walkers
ADOLESCENT
• Children aged 8-15 years
• Mostly unilateral (90%)
Plain film
• Varus deformity of the tibia owing to angulation of the metaphysis.
• Depressed medial tibial metaphysis.
• Beaking and irregularity of the tibial proximal medial metaphysis.
• Tibial shaft is adducted without intrinsic curvature.
Blount disease. Frontal knee radiograph demonstrating a fragmented epiphysis with a depressed medial tibial metaphysis and associated beaking and irregularity. There is a varus deformity of the tibia.
