Incidence is up to 2%, mostly unilateral. Weigert-Meyer rule: upper pole ureter inserts low into the bladder, often has a ureterocele and tends to obstruct. The lower pole ureter tends to reflux. Upper renal pole is often non-functioning.
CT
• Ectopic ureter implanting to vagina/urethra/seminal vesicles, etc.
• Inferior displacement of the lower renal pole giving a ‘drooping lily’ appearance on IVU/coronal CT
• Dilated upper pole calyces
