Uncommon due to the dual blood supply of the liver.
Causes include transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic stunt (TIPS), cholecystectomy, chemoembolisation, liver transplant, arterial emboli and hypercoagulable states (e.g. sepsis). Abscess, scarring and failure of transplanted livers are complications.
CT
• Solitary/multiple peripheral wedge-shaped areas of low attenuation and poor enhancement.
• Review hepatic artery and portal vein for evidence of thrombosis.
