Common autoimmune disease causing inflammation, vasculitis and deposition of immune complexes. The musculoskeletal system is affected in 80% of SLE patients, typically the hands, wrists, knees and shoulders.
• Peri-articular soft tissue swelling.
• Juxta-articular osteopenia.
• Ulnar deviation at the metacarpophalangeal joints without erosions or joint space loss, Boutonierre deformity is known as ‘Jaccoud arthropathy’.
• Carpal instability (scapholunate subluxation, distance >3 mm).
PELVIS X-RAY
• AVN of the femoral head (due to the disease or steroid use)
