It presents with abdominal pain; peritonitis suggests bowel infarction. 
The majority (95%) of mesenteric venous thromboses occur in the SMV Surgery, sepsis and malignancy are risk factors.
CT
•  Enlarged SMV with rim enhancement surrounding central low-density thrombus
•  Bowel thickening and adjacent fat stranding
•  Ascites
•  Check for pneumatosis (bowel infarction)
