In the context of cirrhosis, some nodules of regenerating parenchyma may dominate—this may be confused with HCC. NRH represents reparative attempts by hepatocytes in response to liver injury.
US
• Hypoechoic nodules, typically less than 1 cm
CT
• Typically under 1 cm.
• Isodense to liver parenchyma unless they contain iron deposits (siderotic nodules), in which case they are hyperdense.
• Dysplastic nodules typically are >1 cm, seen in up to 25% of cirrhotic livers.
