  • Measurements are usually taken at the corticomedullary junction in the upper pole, interpolar region and lower pole (>0.80 = abnormal).
  • In native kidneys, high RIs predict progressive renal dysfunction and adverse cardiovascular events.
  • High RIs in transplanted kidneys have been linked to increased risk of graft loss and recipient death.
