Also known as medial tibial stress syndrome, this is a common cause of chronic shin pain in athletes. It is the result of repetitive stress to a normal bone.
NUCLEAR MEDICINE
• Linear symmetrical cortical uptake on bone scan, seen most avidly along the posterior aspects of the distal two-thirds of the tibia.
• Hot patella sign is non-specific.

• Spectrum of findings from marrow oedema to frank stress fracture
