This is a common cause of heel pain that is characterised by a calcaneal deformity (Haglund deformity), retrocalcaneal and superficial calcaneal bursitis and Achilles tendinitis.
PLAIN FILM
- Lateral calcaneal view shows a bump on the posterosuperior aspect of the calcaneus (Haglund deformity).
MRI
- Sagittal T1 may show the calcaneal bump.
- T2 hyperintensity in the retrocalcaneal/retroachilles bursae.
