Transient cardiac syndrome predominantly involving postmenopausal women (90%).
There is left ventricular apical akinesis and dysfunction, with normal coronary arteries.
The typical presentation is with chest pain that mimics a myocardial infarction (troponin enzymes are mildly elevated) following a physically/emotionally stressful event.
Plain film
• Pulmonary oedema
MRI
• Left ventricular dyskinesia and ballooning
• High T2 signal (oedema) in the ventricular wall
• No significant delayed contrast enhancement of the ventricular wall (distinguishing from myocardial infarction)
