Vesico-ureteric reflux, usually diagnosed following workup after urinary tract infection (UTI) in a child. Thought to result from abnormal angulation of ureter insertion to the bladder. In adults due to neurogenic bladder or bladder outflow obstruction.
MCUG
• Contrast instilled to the bladder refluxes to the ureter or kidney.
US
• Useful for staging the extent of pelvi-calyceal dilatation.
NUCLEAR MEDICINE
• MAG3 can be used to assess reflux at the end of a standard MAG3 (patient empties bladder in front of the Gamma-camera).
