Also known as adolescent kyphosis, this is the second most common paediatric spinal deformity. It is more common in boys aged 13-17 years.
PLAIN FILM
• Most common finding is Schmorl nodes and anterior vertebral wedging with disc space narrowing.
• Mostly thoracic (75%).
• Usually three to five vertebral bodies are affected.
• Kyphosis must be >35°.
These represent extrusions of the nucleus pulposus through the vertebral body endplate.
