Most common abnormality of renal fusion. Associated with syndromes and anomalies elsewhere. Morbidity from traumatic injury, recurrent infections, stones and pelvi-ureteric junction (PUJ) obstruction. Higher risk of malignancy.
US
• Fibrous or parenchymal band fusing the lower poles across the midline
• Low position (inferior mesenteric artery prevents migration superiorly)
• Lower renal poles point medially, pelvices anteriorly
CT
• Multiple, ectopic renal arteries e.g. arising from common iliac/internal iliac etc.
