  • Leukoplakia is an uncommon lesion of the urothelium resulting from squamous metaplasia in the setting of chronic inflammation( Linked to chronic infection/stones ). Leukoplakia is characterized by plaque-like mural based filling defects which may be indistinguishable from urothelial carcinoma. 
  • Unlike pyeloureteritis cystica, leukoplakia is considered a premalignant lesion
  • There is squamous metaplasia with keratinisation and desquamation
  • Plaque flakes may then be passed in the urine.
  • may result cholesteotoma
CT
•  May cause strictures in the urinary tract (seen on CT IVU).
