- Leukoplakia is an uncommon lesion of the urothelium resulting from squamous metaplasia in the setting of chronic inflammation( Linked to chronic infection/stones ). Leukoplakia is characterized by plaque-like mural based filling defects which may be indistinguishable from urothelial carcinoma.
- Unlike pyeloureteritis cystica, leukoplakia is considered a premalignant lesion
- There is squamous metaplasia with keratinisation and desquamation.
- Plaque flakes may then be passed in the urine.
- may result cholesteotoma

• May cause strictures in the urinary tract (seen on CT IVU).
