This is the most common cortical developmental anomaly arising from a problem in late neuronal migration. May follow ‘toxoplasmosis, other (syphilis, varicella-zoster, parvovirus B19), rubella, cytomegalovirus (CMV), and herpes (TORCH)’ infection. Developmental delay and seizures are common.
MRI
• Numerous small, undulating gyri, mostly in the perisylvian cortex (may involve a small part of the brain or the whole brain).
• High-resolution MRI improves sensitivity in subtle cases.
